Sediment & Subsidence

Re-using 14 million m3 Sediment in the Rhine-Meuse Estuary

The Rhine-Meuse delta struggles with a sediment unbalance due to urbanization, port development, and the damming of estuaries. This is problematic in the light of climate change. At the same time, large quantities of sediment (14 million m3) are produced annually by dredging of ports and waterways and mostly deposit at sea. What if we would use this sediment as a resource for creating green and healthy urban waterfront environments and large-scale nature development?
