International Delta Conference Redesigning Deltas
Design for transformative change: evidence, agency, cross-disciplinary knowledge
Unsustainable growth and climate change increase the urgency to radically change our current practice of delta management. There is still too much emphasis on short term solutions which constrains options to consider sustainable solutions in the long term. Redesigning Deltas International Conference is a unique event that aims to facilitate dialogues about the future of our deltas with a diverse range of stakeholders that include academia, practitioners, scientists and policymakers from across the world.
It is more important than ever to collectively build the knowledge needed to develop and implement inclusive and situated pathways to sustainable deltas. The conference program will address the current status and future challenges of our deltas, centered on design and design-based approaches to jointly identify these pathways. The leading hypothesis to be advanced during the three conference days is the role of design in questioning, understanding, and changing socio-ecological relations shaping delta futures.
The program will include plenary and hybrid parallel sessions, roundtables, excursions, design exhibition and side events. Convergence Alliance-Resilient Delta, The City of Rotterdam, TU Delft, Deltares, IHE Delft, The Delta Alliance, Wageningen University & Research, the Delta commissioner, and the PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency will co-host the conference.
